Umar Mulinde -
a message to the world,
and especially
the United States
A Christmas Present
for Umar Mulinde:
Nobel Peace Prize Nomination
for his Courage
I think of the worldwide concern for Malala Yousafzai, the Pakistani girl shot by the Taliban for wanting girls to be allowed to get an education. I support her nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize.
Pastor Umar Mulinde dared to convert from Islam to Christianity, and more, to become a Christian minister, though he knew the huge risk he was taking. Islamic religious texts support the killing of those who leave.
Umar Mulinde deserves the same honor as Malala for his bravery, for having the courage to live his truth. His face has been half burned off by acid. And he is one of the lucky ones. Others have not survived.
For more about Umar, you can hear him speaking from the hospital in Israel where he is being treated free. Click here.
My big point: If Malala Yousafzai deserves a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, surely someone who converts to Christianity in a Muslim country deserves a nomination.
I say it's time to nominate Umar Mulinde for the Nobel Peace Prize. A gift to him from all the people who care and who honor his courage.
How did this happen? I was thinking: someone should nominate him. Instead, there's so much Christian silence about the persecution of fellow Christians.
Suddenly it dawned on me: what was I waiting for? why wait for "someone." So I went on change.org.
The goal: 1,000,000 signatures. Not high as I see it. There should be at least that many people who recognize the remarkable courage of people like Umar - because I see that he stands for all the people daring in the face of Islamic danger.
And now a bit of time has passed. A few hours ago, I sent out my email asking people to sign. I go back on the site. I read the caring comments people have left and tears come to my eyes.
